The Bangla language is spoken by people from West Bengal,Tripura(a small North-Eastern state) India, as well as in Bangladesh. The British previously called it Bengali, and the name Bengali is sometimes still used today.Historically Bangla is originated from a language called "Prakrit" which had its root in Sanskrit.
There is few development on the web towards bangla language:
Open Source Software - In Progress:
Bangla support for Linux - http://www.banglalinux.org/
The BengaLinux.Org site is for Bangla localization: http://www.bengalinux.org
Lekho is a GPL-ed text editor for Bengali:Lekho is also called a Bangla (Bengali) unicode editor. Runs on X11 (linux/unix,FreeBSD etc.) and windows. Uses QT. See webpage.
